KIKWETE ORDERS PRODUCTION OF E-LEARNING DETAILED REPORT.

PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has ordered the ministry of Education and Vocational Training and that of Communication, Science and Technology to bring before him a detailed report on the implementation of e-learning in the country.

The computer-based learning programme was being administered by the two ministries, but according to the president, its implementation has been sluggish thus creating worries that the country's efforts  to embrace technologies had failed.
'' I need to know what went wrong with the program. Please, I need a report on that and don't tell me that it perished as we must go digital like the rest of the world" ,Mr Kikwete stressed yesterday when officially lauching Vocational Education and Training Authority(VETA) Institute of Information and Communication Technology at Kipawa in Dar es salaam.

The president also blasted politicians who were ignoring government efforts to seek loans from foreign countries. He said that no development can be made without loans.Such comments were just mere politics that should be ignored, he said.

Mr Kikwete said that even up-to-the-minute ICT Institute he launched Kipawa was brought in place through a simple rate interest loan from the government of South Korea. The Institute cost over 22bn/-. The VETA Director General Eng. Zebadia Moshi said the Institute from next year will enroll up to 192 students for long ICT courses.Currently, it has only 85 students pursuing long courses.

It is also preparing a platform for e-learning. Meanwhile, Mr Kikwete warned the authority to stick on ethics, professionalism and integrity to ensure that it totally curbs fake drugs, food and cosmetics in the country. The president was inaugurating the state-of-the-art laboratory at the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA).

He warned that if corrupt practices were left unchecked, it was obvious the authority was going to tarnish its international image. Such practices would also pose health dangers to consumers both inside and outside the country. "Make sure you do not let in fake drugs, food and cosmetics flood the market as I know there are some of you who can easily be manipulated and fail to observe ethics.

This is very dangerous.Make good use of this modern laboratory, "Mr Kikwete said. TFDA Director General, Mr Hiiti Sillo said that the laboratory cost about 2.7bn/- , funds obtained from development partners and internal sources.
