A total of 115 students in 48 schools in Temeke District have benefited from funding by the Parastatal Pension Funds (PPF) through a programme known as ‘Education Benefit.’
The educational benefit, payable from nursery school to Ordinary Secondary Level, is granted to children of any PPF member who passes away during their service period.
Speaking yesterday during a convocation held by 10 schools at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) in Temeke District, PPF Acting Director General Vupe Ligate said the Fund is committed to providing quality pensions and allied benefits to members for education of children of all members.
Several key persons who attended the concert included included Temeke District Commissioner Sophia Mjema, Mayor of Temeke Municipality Maabadi Suleiman, Temeke District Education Officer Erica Sendegeya and PPF stakeholders
Ligate said: “The fund will help in resolving hardships that arise when parents die, short of which the situation usually results in children becoming victims of illiteracy.”
Meanwhile, Tunu Pinda, wife of the Prime Minister who launched the convocation emphasised the importance of the Fund for children and called upon different stakeholders to increase their support to the education sector.
She said private investment in education will create better learning environment that will impart both knowledge and technology to the youth for active participation in the economy.
“Quality education is the pillar of development, for it is through education that the nation obtains skilled manpower to serve in various sectors in the nation’s economy,” she added.
The wife of the PM said Tanzania would create a strong economy to cope with the challenges of development that can also easily and confidently adopt to the changing market and technological conditions in the region and global economy.
She highlighted the need to improve learning outcomes and ensure literacy is reached early in the child’s schooling through good grooming of the students that depends on the society, parents, teachers and government to work in concert in attaining the goals.
Tunu emphasised that success in the educational sector needs concerted effort of many stakeholders and more effort to change the situation, adding that individual’s attempts regarding intevintion should be supported.
She congratulated parents who have become members of the pension fund for the sake of educational requirements of their children, but added that it is the whole nation’s responsibility to contribute to education sector for national development.
